Start a Calibration

The following information applies to the CAL3K-AP, CAL3K-A, CAL3K-F, CAL3K-S and CAL3K-ST.

The calibration of the CAL3K is a process in which a substance (Benzoic Acid, BA) of known calorific value is burned so that future burning of unknown substances can be compared to it. In other words, the sample result is calculated from the difference to the calibration.

The calibration records all the system variables such as temperature rise, heat loss and environmental conditions in memory. All this data is called a calibration field. The calorimeter can hold 16 calibrations.

To start an actual calibration, type:

The calibration time (or condition) is the same as in a sample. A calibration is treated as a ‘CHECK SAMPLE’ and a calibration. A result is displayed which indicates what the calorific value is if this was a control sample.

If multiple CAL3K units or modes (CAL3K-A, CAL3K-AP) are used then the vessel must be calibrated in each unit or for each mode!
